MEETING THE CRITICAL NEEDS OF HOMELESS CHILDREN.
Last night in Dallas/Fort Worth area an estimated ten thousand people were homeless. Tonight as many as one thousand of those homeless will be children. Averages of three hundred of them are babies and infants who make up the fastest growing segment of the North Texas homeless population. The average age of a homeless person is only 7 years old.
The Status Report on Homelessness in America's Cities reveals that the number of children in homeless shelters is 2 1/2 times greater than the current student body at The University of Texas. In 2005, Captain Hope's Kids distributed critically needed items worth an estimated $325,000 to a collaborative network of 42 homeless service providers in North Texas.
On any given night in North Texas, more than 1000 children will fall asleep in homeless and domestic violence shelters. Of those, over 300 will be babies, infants and toddlers. Captain Hope's Kids is the only agency that actively solicits donations and funds for the sole purpose of providing critically needed supplies to homeless children throughout this region.
In 2005, we distributed an estimated $325,000 worth of critically needed items to a collaborative network of 42 homeless service providers in North Texas. Captain Hope’s Kids addresses the immediate needs of the many infants, toddlers and children struggling to survive and overcome the most difficult of circumstances during their most precious years. It is our goal that every one of these children will have their most basic needs supplied so that they can become healthy and productive citizens in our community.
